Our Story And More
Hi there, Paul and Karen here, thank you for your interest and time.
Our story started in the hotel and travel sphere some time ago, and as you can see, we never left. Just like we did not leave Amsterdam. Loving to share and being passionate hosts, it has been our pleasure to welcome guests to our Amsterdam BnB for more than 2 decades. Always taking care of our guests experience and needs together, we would love to welcome you to Amsterdam as well.
A personal and warm welcome is always provided, but besides that you will not notice us, though you can always reach us – we live on the premises with our two cats Rosie and Billy, in the mornings often joined by a Grey Heron (Henry), who we love to feed. Henry was recently featured on BBC Earth´s Coexistance series “Meet the Herons of Amsterdam”. Check the video out below!
We also feel that doing good is important, we are committed to good causes and are active in different charity projects, feel free to read more about them below. An exciting but tough change to our life we are currently pursuing: removing plastic from our every day life, step by step.
Sustainability
Energy Usage and Green Roof
We do our best by covering the total roof area with solar panels, 30 in all. We picked an energy supplier who produces energy from wind turbines only and of course save energy wherever possible (light bulbs, electronical equipment, …).
The roof area not taken up by solar panels is covered with green plants called sedum. Sedum on the roof helps make the city a greener place and is great for bees and other insects. We love bees!
Our ‘green roof’ was featured by Greenpeace in one of their promotional films.
Vital Water
Pure and vital water: directly from every tap in our Bed and Breakfast. Better for the environment and better for you.
Mounted in our water mains, we have installed a ‘water vitaliser’ from Aqua Aurora which vitalises the water flowing though it, allowing it to regain its natural vibration. Besides being more sustainable, people, plants and animals immediately react to its positive effects – the immune system, metabolism, but also your hair and skin will love it!
